It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ellen Bowler who left us on Thursday September 28, 2017 losing her 14 year battle to Alzheimer’s disease.

She is predeceased by her parents, step father, brothers (Jack and Rae) and brother-in- law Bob.
Ellen was born in Williams Lake, on April 14th, 1941 to Dorothy and Sonny Robins. She was the eldest of five children.
In 1958, Ellen graduated from North Peace Secondary in Fort St John and began her post-secondary education at UBC. As a lifelong learner, Ellen began pursuing her dream to become a teacher. Ellen received her teacher’s certificate from UVIC in 1960 and continued her educational pursuits attending many summer schools. She began teaching in Invermere in the fall of 1960 and moved to Williams Lake in 1962 to pursue another teaching opportunity. While teaching, she met and married George Bowler in February of 1965.
George and Ellen’s family grew in 1965 when their daughter Sandy was born. They moved to Horsefly in 1967 and in 1968 their son Earl was born. Over the next few years, Ellen took a break from teaching to care for her young family. From 1969 to 1974, work took them from Horsefly to Terrace to Stewart and to Port Simpson. At the end of 1974, the family returned to Stewart. Ellen returned to teaching in1974 and retired in 2004.
Ellen was a devoted sister, aunt, mother, wife and grandmother. She was a dedicated educator, principal, and librarian and an inspiration to three generations of students.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the family has decided to postpone a Celebration of Life for Ellen until the Spring. Once date is confirmed, it will be posted on Facebook and family will be notified.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bulkley Lodge in Smithers, BC or the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
