Celebration of Life
Deborah Ann (Debbie) Hycha passed away in May 2017 at the age of 51 in Abbotsford, BC. Her family will be having a Celebration of Life for Debbie on July 26, 2018 at 1pm at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. A lunch and sharing of memories will follow in the church foyer.
Debbie was born in Calgary, Alberta on July 26, 1965, the first born of Carl and Claudette. The family settled in Smithers, BC in 1970. Debbie was a local star in the Smithers Figure Skating Club, and she worked very hard to get herself into the Northern championships and even into the BC Winter Games. During the off-season months, Debbie would spend her time fishing in the local rivers and streams, camping with her family, and enjoying the great outdoors.
After she graduated from high school, she moved down to the Lower Mainland to study hairdressing. She worked in this field for awhile, then studied fashion design. Debbie was creative and original with everything she touched, from custom designing costumes and clothing, to upholstery and neoprene diving suits. She never forgot her roots, however, and could always be found exploring her natural environment, looking for shiny pebbles, pretty feathers or twigs, or other things she could use to embellish her crafts.
Debbie loved life, and to all who knew her, she was a bright and charming person, with a ready smile and an infectious laugh.
Debbie leaves behind her father Carl, mother Claudette, brother David, and sister Carlene. She was predeceased by her beloved sister Janet. She will also be greatly missed by her niece and nephews Roslynne, Thomas, and Cole (Carlene), and nephew Dylan (Janet), and numerous family and friends from near and far.
Please join the family as we celebrate the wonderful life of the Debbie we all remember so well.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local charity of your choice.
