Pierre 'Pete' AslinSeptember 1, 1922 ~ March 17, 2017 (age 94)
Pierre Aslin ‘Pete’ was born on Sept 1, 1922 on Smokehouse Island in Fort Babine.
Pete quit school to help support the family, trapping with his father at Eutsuk Lake and working at different sawmills. He gold paned at Germansen Landing, then joined the Canadian Army on Feb 12, 1943. He was discharged on March 21, 1946. Saving money from the army and trapping, Pete started logging with horses at Babine Lake. He logged for about 40 years, a majority of that time in Babine but also in other areas including Eutsuk, Morice and Houston. Logging with horses and trapping for furs on the weekend Pete finally had enough to afford his own Cat. Pete was such an avid outdoorsman that he bought a bush plane just for his hunting and fishing excursions. Commercial fishing was Pete’s next adventure. Pete commercial fished for approx. 4 years then settled into using his boat for fishing leisurely with his kids and grandkids. Raising cattle on his farm out in the Houston area was his last adventure. Pete spent his last few years living in the Bulkley Lodge in Smithers.
