Joe was born to Willis and Mary Kennedy on July 16, 1945 in Aurora, Missouri. He joined the US Navy after completing high school and served 4 years as an aircraft mechanic, mostly in Bermuda.  Joe came to Canada to attend college in 1966 and it was there that he met he love of his life, Lauriel.  In 1968, they were married and in 1976 they moved to Hazelton, and then 12 years later settled in Smithers.  Joe worked in laying floors and later became a general contractor.  He became well known as the manager of the Riverside Municipal Campground in Smithers, a job he did for 11 years.  His love of talking to people made him perfect for the job!  Joe also loved to play sports; baseball, golf, and especially playing goalie in the Oldtimers hockey league.  He could also be found enjoying a little fishing from time to time.

Joe will be sadly missed by his wife of 48 years, Lauriel; son Jim (Cherrie); daughter Debbie; grandchildren Leanne, Isaac, Alex, Nathan, Eric, Cameron, Chad and Anya; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers Bob and Don; sisters Esther Schnake and Lori Martinez.  He was predeceased by his brother Gene.
